Fastest Electric Cars: A New Generation of Electric Cars are Surprisingly Fast

Fastest Electric Vehicles

There’s many good reasons to buy an electric luxury car in 2021 – and now speed is one of them. Explore some of the fastest electric cars with us.

Electric cars are not what they used to be and there’s many good reasons to buy one. Among other things, they are good for the environment and easy on the pocketbook in terms of fuel costs. A list of the fastest electric cars? Yes, now you can add speed to your list of reasons to own an electric car - at least when it comes to certain models. When battery powered vehicles first came on the scene 20 years ago, some people only half-jokingly compared them to golf carts. They were all about efficiency and less about performance. (And some still are that way). But today’s EVs are much more advanced – especially once you look at the luxury category. In fact, we are now in an exciting new era of the EV sports cars and SUVs and their electric-propulsion systems provide impressive zero-to-60-mph times and instant torque.

While many EVs still don’t offer acceleration and top speeds comparable to gas-powered cars, here’s a list of some some of the fastest electric cars that do:

Porsche Taycan

Porsche Taycan for Sale There's more than a reason as to why the Taycan made it to the top of our fastest electric cars list. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S set a new quarter-mile record for electric cars in Motortrend magazine’s tests. It also came in near the top for zero to 60 with a time of 2.4 seconds. The Taycan is Porsche’s first-ever fully electric vehicle. The four-door sports car that starts at $150,900, while the more powerful Turbo S version comes in closer to $185,000. The Turbo S version of the dual-motor Taycan boasts 750 horsepower with a staggering top speed of 162 mph. The Taycan also gives you a range of about 250 miles, engaging handling and some of the most legendary engineering in the world of sportscars. All models have dual electric motors, with one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rear. Inside the tech-filled interior, the look is sleek and sophisticated but never overstated. You can fill it with a range of optional luxurious materials and rich color schemes and choose massaging front seats, four-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats, among many other options. The Taycan battery operates by means of pouch cells, chemically optimized for maximum performance with a long range. The battery is also based on 800-volt technology instead of the usual 400 volts with the effecting being improved charging and drive performance with smaller cable cross-sections that reduce overall weight. The Taycan's charging system is recalibrated to better preserve the battery's service life and limit overall power loss during fast charging. The 4S comes with a 522-hp powertrain, 19-inch wheels, an adaptive air suspension, a partial leather interior, and keyless entry.

Audi e-tron GT

Audi e-Tron for Sale This fully electric four-seater is also quick and responsive thanks to a similar twin motor system and two-speed transmission. The RS version can deploy an overboost 637bhp (power is normally 590bhp) to deliver an astonishingly fast zero-to-60 of 3.1 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph. Like the sleek e-tron SUV, the four-seater is part of an initial wave of battery-electric vehicles planned by parent Volkswagen Group. The e-tron is built on a new EV-specific platform that incorporates components from the group's existing SUV architectures. Both feature two electric motors making a combined 355 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. And Motortrend says it’s one of the fastest accelerating electric cars they tested. Even the SUV did 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Range is estimated at just 204 miles by the EPA. The e-tron doesn’t drive like your typical electric car. In fact, it drives like just about any other Audi thanks to state-of-the-art drive technology. With its electric motor powering each axle, the all-wheel drive Q4 e-tron creates an impressive 300 horsepower that can get you from zero-to-60 in 6.3 seconds. The interior showcases Audi's state-of-the-art technology, including a digital gauge display that is standard in all models as well as a large infotainment touchscreen angled toward the driver.

BMW i3

BMW i3 Electric Car With a tight turning radius and quick acceleration – zero to 60 in 6.6 seconds – and a “green” interior that includes environmentally friendly eucalyptus wood, the i3 is also nothing to sniff at when it comes to speed and performance. It’s a progressive and unconventional fully electric sedan. With high-capacity batteries that can be fully charged in under six hours, the BMW i3 and i3s are perfect compact sedans for daily commutes and road trips. Starting at $45,445, the i3 is more fun to drive than most electric cars thanks to a one-speed direct-drive transmission. The i3 is a quick ride that will hit a top speed of 93 mph. And it features a beautifully crafted and open-feeling interior made from recycled materials, and rear side doors are hinged at the back - opening opposite the front doors. The BMW i Wallbox offers faster charging at home: Up to 80 percent state of charge in 5 hours of charging. Public charging is powered by EVgo: Up to 80 percent state of charge in 40 minutes or less of charging.

Jaguar I-PACE

Fastest Electric Cars - Jaguar I-PACE Jaguar's electric crossover is as good looking as it is fun – and peppy – to drive. This stylish crossover has standard all-wheel drive and produces 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque. It also offers precise steering fast acceleration – zero to 60 in just 4. 5 seconds – and a not-too-shabby top speed of 155 mph. Range is an impressive 292 miles thanks to its 90kWh battery. The I-Pace offers more than outstanding performance and range. It features two Jaguar-designed electric motors at each axle, producing exceptional combined performance of 400PS and 696Nm, aluminum construction and a low center of gravity. The I-PACE provides an unmatched balance of all-wheel drive performance, refinement, luxury and agility. And best of all Jaguar Partners with home-charging providers all over the world, making charging your car as easy as charging your phone. Make sure you consider Jaguar, when looking for your pick from the fastest electric vehicles.

Aston Martin Rapide E

Fastest Electric Vehichles - Aston Martin Rapid e With an estimated MSRP of $255,000 this is one of the most expensive EV’s coming on the market with a limited production run of just 155 vehicles. The Rapide E features an 800-volt electric battery that powers its twin motors to produce over 600 horsepower, according to Aston Martin. The Rapide has a range of over 200 miles and it can fully charge in three hours. The fully electric car also has a “sub-4.0 second 0-60 mph time,” the company said. According to the Driving.ca website the sleek four-door will come with a twin-electric-motor drivetrain delivering 610 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. “The units – which sit in the engine bay where the 6.0-litre V12 and transmission used to live, to maintain weight balance – can rocket the car to 250 km/h, and to 100 km/h from zero in less than four seconds. Accelerating from 80 km/h to 110 km/h takes less than 1.5 seconds,” according to the website. The car will not only perform like a gas-powered Rapide S but it will handle just like one too thanks to a limited-slip differential and a suspension system controlled in part by integrated software. You simply plug in your Rapid E to a 400-volt 50-kW charger to charge it to 300 km of range in an hour.

But speed and luxury are just a few of the benefits of buying electric in the coming years.

Here are some other reasons you might consider taking the plunge:

  • EVs are better for the environment because are responsible for fewer greenhouse-gas emissions than gas vehicles.
  • They can save you money because they are becoming more affordable in general. They also save you on fuel costs because you spend zero on gasoline as well as maintenance. There’s also a ton of tax incentives and rebates offered on electric vehicles. To see if a vehicle qualifies for federal tax credits (up to $7,500) and for how much, you can check out the EPA site. For state incentives you can check out Plug In America.
  • You don’t have to worry about range any more. Today, many vehicles offer 200+ miles of range, meaning a typical driver will be OK for the day. And in the US as of April 2021 there were more than 22,000 public charging stations.

The last pure Lamborghini V12? Yes – it’s the end of an era for the Aventador, the iconic super sports car that defined a decade

It’s the end of an era. Lamborghini says farewell to the Aventador. Lamborghini has stopped production of a legendary supercar and says farewell to the Aventador with the final Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster. To mark the end of production, this very special car comes in a very special light blue “Ad Personam” color. Farewell to the Aventador. Here's Why this Iconic Supercar Took Over the Auto Industry for Over a Decade. It’s the very last pure, naturally-aspirated V12 Lamborghini to be produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Unfortunately for American buyers the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster is only headed to the Swiss market. (Still time to buy that chateau you’ve been dreaming about). First unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 11 years ago as the Aventador LP 700-4, the name refers to its 700 horsepower and permanent four-wheel drive. Laborghini Aventador. Power. Luxury. Performance. With an engine mounted longways at the rear - aka Longitudinale Posteriore -  the Aventador brought to the market several important new technologies as well as a classic design and, of course, incredible performance. Lamborghini performance. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini, told the media: “The Aventador is a jump of two generations in terms of design and technology, with an exceptional package of unique, innovative technologies and performance that is simply overwhelming.” With more than eight model derivatives and 11,465 cars delivered to Lamborghini customers worldwide, the Aventador brought more than 10 one-off and limited editions while winning numerous awards and setting track records during the span of its lifetime. And it was, of course, featured in many films and videos. “The Lamborghini Aventador was a game-changer at its launch, and the flagship Lamborghini model for 11 years of production,” Winkelmann said recently. “The V12 engine has been part of Lamborghini’s heritage since the company’s earliest days; the beating heart of models from Miura to Diablo, Countach to Murciélago. The Aventador captured Lamborghini’s competencies in design and engineering when it debuted in 2011, with Lamborghini values that are always at the center of the company and product impetus: pure, futuristic design; benchmarking performance; and addressing technical challenges with innovation to produce the most emotive, class-leading super sports cars. These principles are the very essence of the Lamborghini Aventador, and assure its timeless appeal.” And did you know that more Aventadors have been sold by Lamborghini than the total of all previous V12 models? We May Have to Say Farewell to the Aventador, but Lamborghini Continues To Be the Future of The Automotive World. For instance, in just the fifth year, the Italian automaker delivered to customers 5,000 units. The 10,000th Aventador was delivered in September 2020. Check out: Back from the Ashes: Lamborghini to Open Up Production on the Discontinued Aventadors that Burned and Sunk in the Atlantic. So what else makes this supercar great? Let’s take a look and make our farewell to the Aventador memorable. The Aventador’s technical innovations were many -  driven by Lamborghini’s R&D department headed by Chief Technical Officer Maurizio Reggiani working in close collaboration with the Centro Stile design department, in a ‘clean sheet’ approach. The Aventador Displays Luxury in Every Inch of its Design. It was the first of its kind in a production car, a lightweight carbon fiber single-piece monocoque weighing just 147.5 kg. It was produced using Lamborghini’s patented RTM-Lambo™ process, manufactured entirely in-house. And it delivered maximum torsional stiffness and safety for the car’s occupants. Automobili Lamborghini’s expertise in carbon fiber and lightweight technologies is represented throughout the Aventador’s history and evolution. For instance, there were extensive developments in forged composite technologies. A team of “flying doctors” was established at the Aventador’s inception, traveling across the world to support dealers with specialist diagnostics and repairs to the carbon fiber monocoque when damaged. The new 6.5 liter 12-cylinder engine, producing 700 horsepower at a maximum of 8,250 rpm, delivered an incredible zero to 60 in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph. With 508 lb-feet of torque and a well-rounded torque curve, the Aventador’s pulling power, dynamism, aerodynamic efficiency, and precision handling, are set to the soundtrack of the V12 engine’s roar. There's No Better Way to Say Farewell to the Aventador Than by Acknowledging its Beauty, Performance, and Efficiency. And over the years, it has evolved to maintain the Aventador’s legendary status and appeal throughout its lifetime evolution. The Aventador’s design included an aeronautically-inspired, dynamic, sculpted super sports car. Its tight lines, interesting surfaces, and juxtaposition of angles, including the scissor doors on the V12 Lamborghinis, created a timeless automotive design as well as a powerful piece of enduring automotive art. Every Aventador produced is, in fact, considered a piece of art; with 85 percent of Aventadors featuring Ad Personam personalization by their owners: more than 200 unique colors and trims have been created for the Aventador. What else is there to love about the Aventador? Let’s take a look at the 2022 model: The 2022 Aventador by Lamborghini anticipates that future with an innovative low-slung design that is bursting with technology – including extensive use of carbon filter - and a V12 engine that is one for the history books. The Aventador is an Authentic Design Masterpiece. It’s an authentic design masterpiece that blends stark dynamism with aggressive aerodynamics to produce a cutting-edge monocoque. Inside, the highly customizable cabin combines high-level technology with luxury, premium-quality materials, and skillful Italian craftsmanship. It’s a supercar that works for your weekend whims and your family errands. Because real life doesn’t have to be boring. The powerful 769-hp V-12 engine and exotic low-slung exterior make the Aventador the very definition of a hypercar. You can get from zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds and reach a searing top speed of 217 mph. So what will your future be? Familiar? Or something a little more? There’s room for two inside the 2022 Adventador’s cockpit. So grab that someone special and take off into a bright new future. Starting at $450,000. Features we love: -Every Aventador sports scissor doors that swing open, adding to the inherent drama. -The Aventador’s technical specifications, dimensions and performance all add up to greatness - the futuristic interior can be fitted with a variety of premium materials and personalized options. -Lamborghini is building just 600 of the 2022 Aventadors globally (hence the moniker “Ultimae”) as a sendoff to the great car. Lamborghini Aventador: Everything You've Ever Desired. -A finely tuned V-12 engine and weight-saving technology make this one of the lightest and fastest Lamborghinis ever. -This supercar's powertrain features a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 that develops 769 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Lamborghini says farewell to the Aventador, but there's much more you can enjoy from the Italian luxury brand. Check out our Lamborghini dealerships below. Bentley Rancho Mirage Celebrates Desert Fun & Leisure with its Colors of Inspiration Collection.

The Coachella Valley has long been the perfect sun-drenched weekend getaway for those escaping the smog of Los Angeles or the cold of Northern cities. The Colors of Inspiration Collection: A New Era of Bentley. To celebrate everything bright, happy, and fun about visiting the desert - from its hotels and swimming pools to its golf courses and blue sky - Desert European Motorcars has created the Colors of Inspiration collection for Bentley Rancho Mirage. Each one of these very special Bentleys in the Colors of Inspiration Collection has gorgeous exterior paint colors matched with exciting fun and leisure-inspired pinstriping in bright hues such as “Hyperactive” orange, “Vibrant” Yellow, “Turquoise” Blue, and “Bespoke” White. The bright color accents lend a dramatic effect set against more classic exterior paint colors such as Arctic White, Satin Anthracite Grey, Beluga Black, and Cambrian Grey. “The idea was to try to build some cool cars with accent colors that accentuate the younger hip and cool generation that now comes to Coachella and Palm Springs,” explains Jason Cammisa, campus director at Desert European Motorcars, which oversees nine luxury car dealerships in Rancho Mirage that are part of Indigo Auto Group. “We wanted to do a contemporary twist with young fun colors accenting what people feel when they come to the Coachella Valley. They are happy, young, and vibrant hues.” The Colors of Inspiration Collection Catapults Bentley Into the Future of The Automotive World. Cammisa himself worked with Bentley Mulliner to commission the exclusive Colors of Inspiration Bentleys in a dazzling array of finishes, materials, and exclusive features. Inside they are filled with a dizzying portfolio of finishes, materials, and features and all the luxury amenities you’d expect of a Bentley. The collection comprises a limited edition of three Bentley models – the Continental, Flying Spur, and Bentayga - in colors and finishes that recall the “fun and happy” vibe of the desert. The Highlighter Yellow trim, for instance, seems to harken back to 1980s spring break in Palm Springs, while the Tiffany Blue trim lends a more classic Hollywood/mid-century modern vibe. Check out: The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid SUV is part of a Lineup that Will be Fully Hybridized by 2025 and Fully Electric Palm Springs and the greater Coachella Valley have always been a place of leisure starting as far back as the 1930s when Hollywood stars began flocking to the desert paradise for quick weekend getaways from movie sets. Bentley: Luxury and Power Driven, Since then, the area has continued to attract film industry types, presidents, and captains of industry and others from all over the world who are drawn to the sunshine, clean air, world-class golf courses, and laid-back poolside lifestyle. “The idea with Colors of Inspiration Collection was to try and build some cool cars with accent colors that reflect the younger generation that is coming here now,” Cammisa says. Three models are offered in four color combinations for both the Bentley eight-cylinder engine model and the12-cylinder engine model, he noted. “They are in essence one of a kind because you are never going to see more than one of these exact cars. So if someone wants the black one with bespoke white trim, then only one buyer gets the eight-cylinder and one buyer gets the 12 cylinder.” The models have already started arriving at Bentley Rancho Mirage. The brightly colored pinstriping will be shown as an accent on the carbon body exterior of the car as well as on the stitching throughout the interior. “We came up with the accent colors by looking at the spectrum of the rainbow that is the ‘hot’ colors and ended up choosing highlighter yellow, cool orange, and tiffany blue,” Cammisa explains. “I think with Bentley specifically - and with these kinds of spec builds - you can attract anyone from their 20s to their 80s. The Colors of Inspiration Models are Fresh and Unique from Any Other Car and Bentley. “They are fresh and unique enough to where they stand apart from other cars and other Bentleys but they are not too in your face crazy while being drive-able and fun.” “And they will be arriving just in time for Coachella.” The Colors of Inspiration collection demonstrates what can be achieved through the Mulliner personal commissioning process, where the customer, retailer, and Mulliner’s design team collaborate to create truly unique cars. Mulliner’s association with Bentley, in fact, stretches back to the earliest days of the company. Colors of Inspiration Collection was Great Success Thanks to Mulliner's Key Role. Now Bentley’s known as an in-house personal commission division, Mulliner plays a key role in defining the company’s future design DNA, as demonstrated to stunning effect by the extraordinary new Batur coupé. From special features and finishes to unique and limited-edition coach-built vehicles, the Mulliner name continues to represent the ultimate in Bentley design and craftsmanship. Bentley customers are showing an increasing appreciation of the individuality that a Mulliner feature can bring to their chosen automobile. In recent years the percentage of Bentleys with specific Mulliner features has continued to grow. The demand for Mulliner special paint finishes has more than doubled; and the number of Mulliner personal commissions, bringing an individual vision to life in the Mulliner atelier, has tripled. Regional teams are also taking advantage of the unique ability to curate bespoke collections, specific to their own customers' interests and passions. Inspired by the location. Created by Bentley. A Porsche Show for Porsche Insiders: Welcome to the Luft 8

It’s been called the "insider’s Porsche show," and the 2022 Luft 8 did not disappoint. The Luft 8 celebration of everything Porsche took place at the Port of Los Angeles. On display: Your favorite Porsche models in just about every variant possible – some modified and some appearing very futuristic – along with those with rare colors, various engine combinations, prototypes, and race versions. The 82' 911 SC for The Porsche Palm Springs Classic Restoration Project Was Displayed at The Luftgekühlt 8 . It all happened at the Luftgekühlt 8, or Luft 8 as it is known. Luftgekühlt 8 was started by Porsche racer Patrick Long and art director Howie Idelson in 2014. The first event was a small Porsche gathering at a motorcycle shop in Venice, California. Since then, Luftgekühlt  - "air-cooled" in German - has multiplied in size and notoriety. This year, many of the cars were inside the air-cooled facility, but there was also an all-Porsche parking lot where many fine models were on display. Guests Enjoyed Our Replica Porsche Hauler. Photographers of all ages were on hand to capture the dazzling array of Porsche sports cars on their cameras and cell phones. And there were plenty of famous and unusual Porsches to take in. Take, for instance, the Pikes Peak special, a lightweight buggy, powered by a twin-turbocharged flat-six. This 10th edition of the famous celebration of Porsche’s air-cooled past embraced car culture and Porsche lovers alike. Check out: Tesla Model S vs Porsche Taycan The Luftgekühlt 8: A Festival of Everything Porsche. From low riders to hot rods to sports cars, the Southern California region has something for everyone, and parking lots are filled every weekend with car shows of purists and creatives alike showcasing their cars while also taking in others' treasured vehicles. With its origins rooted in LA, Sunday’s meeting at CRAFTED at the Port of Long Beach was something of a homecoming for Luft 8. Set in and around a pair of 1940s-era warehouses formerly used as a holding point for shipping companies, the 10th edition featured pristine examples of historic racing cars and museum-quality machines among more humble offerings driven in by local owners. Pristine Examples of Historic Racing Cars and Museum-Quality Machines Were Displayed. While some of the focus was on the 50th anniversary of the Carrera RS 2.7, crowds at the sell-out event mingled among other highlights including a 1956 550A Spyder, a 934/5 crafted by Canepa, a few custom creations from California-based designers and builders, and a handful of endurance race winners covering Le Mans, Sebring, and Daytona. Hundreds more models, spanning Porsche's 74-year history, were parked in interesting arrangements that not only displayed the brand’s lineage but also ensured a car photographer's paradise. “My background is film and photography so our goal is always to create a highly visual event and the cars that were submitted this year for sure allowed us to do that,”  said Jeff Zwart, filmmaker, Porsche collector, and Pikes Peak record holder. "This is also Jeff's playground. He lives in nearby Aspen, Colorado." “Patrick Long has such a vision for these events and I always feel like I have to up my game to support that with visuals that allow the show to live well beyond the first-person experience," Zwart added. True Porsche DNA Was Displayed in This Special Event. Elsewhere, a naked 356 chassis formed part of a display by Porsche Classic, which showcased its parts and services for owners looking to restore their cars. The new book by Type7, Type7 Volume 3, also made its US debut, with editor-in-chief Ted Gushue signing copies. And dozens of food trucks – a staple of LA – kept the tens of thousands who attended well-nourished, with a menu as colorful and eclectic as the cars on show. After the 2020 Luft 8 event was canceled due to the pandemic, and 2021 was limited in size, Luftgekühlt 8 proved that there is an appetite for more than good food in California – and that Porsche people know how to party. “These events are lots of work for our incredible team but when all the cars have landed and the crowd rolls in, it’s so satisfying to see how much people just enjoy wandering around with great music and cars to inspire the air-cooled story," said Zwart.
