The Velocity Invitational is known for highlighting some of the automotive industry's most historic racecars – and the 2022 event in Larkspur, Calif., was no exception. This Year's Velocity Invitational Highlighted Motorsport Legends in Action. In fact, some of the world’s most historic racecars were showcased in the Velocity Invitational event this year, among them the 1996 McLaren F1 GT12R, Ayrton Senna’s 1990 F1 World Championship car, and rally cars along with on-track appearances by drivers Mario Andretti, Tanner Foust, Mika Häkkinen, and Pato O'Ward The annual three-day event included vintage racing, special exhibitions, plenty of food, and wine - all at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The Festival Was More Than Successful with Over 15,000 Attendees Throughout the Three-Day Event. More than 15,000 attended the Oct. 14-16 event and more than 600,000 followers caught the live stream on Youtube. Although hundreds of iconic race cars were showcased, the 1996 McLaren F1 GT12R grabbed much of the attention. Care for a Thrilling Ride on the Race Track? The same car competed in the 1996 24 Hours Of Le Mans and took four wins in the BPR Global Sportscar Championship. It was driven by Tanner Foust throughout the weekend. Legend Mario Andretti, one of the most successful drivers in the history of motorsports, drove a modern Formula 1 car (2013 McLaren MP4/28A).  IndyCar star Pato O’Ward and Formula 1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen spent time behind the wheel of Ayrton Senna’s 1990 F1 World Championship-winning car, the McLaren MP4/5B-07 and with Alain Prost’s MP4/2B-3, which won the 1985 F1 World Championship. Six rally vehicles from Seattle’s DirtFish Rally School were also in attendance. They ranged from the Group B Lancia Rally 037 and MG Metro 6R4 to some of Subaru’s best Imprezas and the Peugeot 206 WRC that dominated the World Rally Championship in the early 2000s. Attendees Experienced the Power of Sportscars at Their Fingertips. Alister McRae and his son Max McRae drove and drifted those cars. “Velocity Invitational was introduced with a vision of revitalizing the motorsports experience for all generations of enthusiasts and their families to enjoy,” said event founder Jeff O’Neill. At other times during the weekend cars from Hennessey, Czinger, Mclaren, and Zenvo were seen both on track and on display in the paddock alongside hundreds of race cars from as early as 1920. The Event Highlighted the Best Race Cars and Collections From Around the World. The event’s “Sip & Savor” Pavilion also provided a hub for local vendors to offer gourmet food and wine tastings from brands like Robert Hall, Rombauer Vineyards, Langtry Farms, and Ryder Estate. This year’s event included a successful charity auction offering a chance to bid on two tickets to the highly anticipated event and an exclusive ride-along experience in the McLaren Artura supercar, accompanied by Mika Hakkinen or Pato O’ Ward.  The final bid in the auction - put together by McLaren and Bring a Trailer - finished at $3,200, which will go to Inspire Motorsport’s The Path to the Pits efforts to diversify the racing world and welcome new fans. It’s match made in art heaven: An automotive work of art has been paired with the work of a well-known artist to create one of the most colorful hybrid supercars in the automotive world. Nat Bowen is a UK-based artist known for her abstract yet vibrant and colorful works of art. The similarly vibrant special Artura was unveiled a few months ago during her first solo exhibition in Dubai. Artist Nat Bowen with the Art Car The car’s exterior is covered in translucent resin with pigments that adapt to light in an unusual way. The resin/pigments actually absorb and reflects their surroundings, turning the car into a part of the surroundings. "We are delighted to have collaborated with Nat Bowen to showcase the all-new McLaren Artura featuring her signature multi-layered artwork in the iconic surroundings of the ME Dubai,” Mohamed Fawzi, Market Director – Middle East & Africa, McLaren Automotive – told the media. “The exhibition received phenomenal reception from the attending guests and allowed us to successfully engage with the extremely passionate art community in Dubai and the rest of the Middle East region.” The Artura is the first series-production high-performance hybrid car for McLaren. Built upon the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), the Artura represents the start of McLaren's electrified future. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 and an "E-Motor,” the McLaren Artura churns out a whopping 671 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and 593 pound-feet of torque. McLaren calls the Artura the next-generation hybrid supercar, the distillation of everything learned over many decades of automotive engineering. Lightweight, ultra-efficient and, most importantly, fast. The 2023 McLaren Artura GT4 race car is currently making its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain. And you can soon purchase this latest McLaren race car - but don’t think for a minute this machine is street legal. McLaren is well known for producing some of the fastest and most powerful cars in automotive history. Founded in the 1960s, McLaren has produced some of the most revered supercars, including the 720S and the 570S. And now there’s a new one about to make automotive history: the McLaren Artura GT4. 2023 McLaren Motorcars Artura GT4 The 2023 McLaren Artura GT4 race car employs the same brand new twin-turbo V6 engine as the McLaren Artura production model slated for release this summer. But it lacks the production model's plug-in-hybrid system, which isn't allowed in the GT4 class. To the untrained eye the race car looks pretty identical to the Artura production model - save for a few details, including its weight, which is 286 pounds lighter than the road model. It also has larger intakes on the front end, a unique wheel design, a new splitter, canards on the bumper and more vents in the hood. The GT4 is the second race car built from the ground up by the brand's motorsport division. It’s specifically designed for track use only – a celebration of McLaren’s rich racing heritage, which includes its presence in Formula 1 and Grand Touring motorsport. McLaren has already unveiled its production model Artura supercar that is also based on the same Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) platform, along with a 671hp hybrid powertrain. The McLaren Artura GT4 in Black Pricing has not been released but you can expect it to cost upwards of $245,000. The new GT4’s compact and powerful V6 engine is both lighter and more fuel efficient than the previous GT4 V8. Additionally, the transmission has shorter gear ratios than 570S GT4 and a mechanical limited slip differential for increased performance. But overall, the new Artura GT4 shares much of its technology with the McLaren Artura road car. McLaren Artura Panel The production model Artura was originally slated for release in the third quarter of 2021. However, due to the pandemic-related microchip shortage, the widely anticipated hypercar will be released in July 2022. The GT4’s stripped-out interior includes several iconic features, including racing bucket seats, adjustable pedals and a digital gauge cluster made by Bosche. McLaren Artura GT4 According to McLaren, the Artura is easier to get in and out of the Artura than the old 570S GT4, which is important for safety and driver changes. McLaren also notes that its motorsport-inspired chassis design and construction is the ideal platform for a race car, with the rigid structure enabling a wider setup envelope for the driver as well as a strong, safe driving environment. Here are some other McLaren Artura GT4 features worth noting: Light and powerful, the 2023 McLaren Artura GT4 race car is built using the brand-new McLaren Carbon Fiber Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). MCLA uses four new types of carbon fiber as well as an all-new resin system for perfected aerodynamics. The 2023 McLaren Artura GT4 boasts a dual-tone paint scheme with racing-inspired graphics as well as a sculpted hood with functional air scoops. Queen Elizabeth may love her corgi-toting Range Rovers but that hasn’t stopped another British luxury automaker from celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. McLaren has in fact developed a new platinum paint color – and a special edition sports car - to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The special silvery hue was painstakingly created over a full eight days by McLaren Special Operations, which put it through durability and application testing to make sure it dazzled the entire automotive world. McLaren honors Queen Elizabeth II in her Platinum Jubilee Year You, the customer, will be able to opt for this paint color for “years to come,” according to McLaren. Additionally, McLaren has made a one-off Artura Supercar for the same Jubilee celebration. The unique hybrid, 661 hp supercar is, of course, finished in that custom platinum paint we previously mentioned. The jubilee supercar comes from the British luxury automaker’s in-house bespoke division known as McLaren Special Operations (MSO). It’s the same division that creates custom McLarens for an exclusive segment of serious collectors. And the same team developed a special tool and press to create a unique badge for the supercar that simply spells out “Elizabeth II.” And although the McLaren Artura is a limited edition, don’t fret. The platinum “jubilee” paint on the hybrid will be available to all collectors for years to come. McLaren’s advanced coatings partner AkzoNobel analyzed different lighting to create the very special metallic pigment befitting of a queen. The expert paint developers then refined the finish over an entire eight-day period. The result? An uber-striking hue that would dazzle even QE2 herself. McLaren Artura Motor “It has been an honor for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year,” Ansar Ali, managing director of McLaren Special Operations, said in a statement. “This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone.” Aside from those tweaks, McLaren didn’t change much else on the Artura. So you can always buy a “regular” Artura (starting at $225,000) and know you are getting something very close. Especially if you choose the special jubilee platinum paint for the exterior. The Artura is McLaren’s first-ever series-production high-performance hybrid car. It’s part of the “Super Series” category, along with the 720s, and comes with an aerodynamic body that weighs just 3,303 pounds. McLaren Artura Motor Powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that cranks out 577 hp and 431 ft-lbs of torque, the Artura also has an electric motor that kicks in an additional 94 hp and 161 ft-lbs of torque. It will get you from zero to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds and reach a searing top speed of 205 mph. The battery pack enables a top speed of 81 mph and a range of 19 miles if you are driving in electric mode alone. The hybrid McLaren Artura was revealed at an event on Thursday at McLaren's Technical Center in the UK. McLaren spared nothing in creating the jubilee edition. They even developed a special tool and press to create a new badge. The new McLaren Artura, which came out in 2021, is the second hybrid McLaren after the legendary P1.
