Lamborghini has stopped production of a legendary supercar and says farewell to the Aventador with the final Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster. First unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 11 years ago as the Aventador LP 700-4, the name refers to its 700 horsepower and permanent four-wheel drive. Laborghini Aventador. Power. Luxury. Performance. With an engine mounted longways at the rear - aka Longitudinale Posteriore -  the Aventador brought to the market several important new technologies as well as a classic design and, of course, incredible performance. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini, told the media: “The Aventador is a jump of two generations in terms of design and technology, with an exceptional package of unique, innovative technologies and performance that is simply overwhelming.” With more than eight model derivatives and 11,465 cars delivered to Lamborghini customers worldwide, the Aventador brought more than 10 one-off and limited editions while winning numerous awards and setting track records during the span of its lifetime. And it was, of course, featured in many films and videos. “The Lamborghini Aventador was a game-changer at its launch, and the flagship Lamborghini model for 11 years of production,” Winkelmann said recently. “The V12 engine has been part of Lamborghini’s heritage since the company’s earliest days; the beating heart of models from Miura to Diablo, Countach to Murciélago. The Aventador captured Lamborghini’s competencies in design and engineering when it debuted in 2011, with Lamborghini values that are always at the center of the company and product impetus: pure, futuristic design; benchmarking performance; and addressing technical challenges with innovation to produce the most emotive, class-leading super sports cars. The new 6.5 liter 12-cylinder engine, producing 700 horsepower at a maximum of 8,250 rpm, delivered an incredible zero to 60 in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph. With 508 lb-feet of torque and a well-rounded torque curve, the Aventador’s pulling power, dynamism, aerodynamic efficiency, and precision handling, are set to the soundtrack of the V12 engine’s roar. It’s been called the "insider’s Porsche show," and the 2022 Luft 8 did not disappoint. The Luft 8 celebration of everything Porsche took place at the Port of Los Angeles. On display: Your favorite Porsche models in just about every variant possible – some modified and some appearing very futuristic – along with those with rare colors, various engine combinations, prototypes, and race versions. The 82' 911 SC for The Porsche Palm Springs Classic Restoration Project Was Displayed at The Luftgekühlt 8 . It all happened at the Luftgekühlt 8, or Luft 8 as it is known. Luftgekühlt 8 was started by Porsche racer Patrick Long and art director Howie Idelson in 2014. The first event was a small Porsche gathering at a motorcycle shop in Venice, California. Since then, Luftgekühlt  - "air-cooled" in German - has multiplied in size and notoriety. With its origins rooted in LA, Sunday’s meeting at CRAFTED at the Port of Long Beach was something of a homecoming for Luft 8. Set in and around a pair of 1940s-era warehouses formerly used as a holding point for shipping companies, the 10th edition featured pristine examples of historic racing cars and museum-quality machines among more humble offerings driven in by local owners. While some of the focus was on the 50th anniversary of the Carrera RS 2.7, crowds at the sell-out event mingled among other highlights including a 1956 550A Spyder, a 934/5 crafted by Canepa, a few custom creations from California-based designers and builders, and a handful of endurance race winners covering Le Mans, Sebring, and Daytona. Hundreds more models, spanning Porsche's 74-year history, were parked in interesting arrangements that not only displayed the brand’s lineage but also ensured a car photographer's paradise. “My background is film and photography so our goal is always to create a highly visual event and the cars that were submitted this year for sure allowed us to do that,”  said Jeff Zwart, filmmaker, Porsche collector, and Pikes Peak record holder. "This is also Jeff's playground. He lives in nearby Aspen, Colorado." “Patrick Long has such a vision for these events and I always feel like I have to up my game to support that with visuals that allow the show to live well beyond the first-person experience," Zwart added. True Porsche DNA Was Displayed in This Special Event. Elsewhere, a naked 356 chassis formed part of a display by Porsche Classic, which showcased its parts and services for owners looking to restore their cars. The new book by Type7, Type7 Volume 3, also made its US debut, with editor-in-chief Ted Gushue signing copies. And dozens of food trucks – a staple of LA – kept the tens of thousands who attended well-nourished, with a menu as colorful and eclectic as the cars on show. After the 2020 Luft 8 event was canceled due to the pandemic, and 2021 was limited in size, Luftgekühlt 8 proved that there is an appetite for more than good food in California – and that Porsche people know how to party. “These events are lots of work for our incredible team but when all the cars have landed and the crowd rolls in, it’s so satisfying to see how much people just enjoy wandering around with great music and cars to inspire the air-cooled story," said Zwart. The Velocity Invitational is known for highlighting some of the automotive industry's most historic racecars – and the 2022 event in Larkspur, Calif., was no exception. This Year's Velocity Invitational Highlighted Motorsport Legends in Action. In fact, some of the world’s most historic racecars were showcased in the Velocity Invitational event this year, among them the 1996 McLaren F1 GT12R, Ayrton Senna’s 1990 F1 World Championship car, and rally cars along with on-track appearances by drivers Mario Andretti, Tanner Foust, Mika Häkkinen, and Pato O'Ward The annual three-day event included vintage racing, special exhibitions, plenty of food, and wine - all at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The Festival Was More Than Successful with Over 15,000 Attendees Throughout the Three-Day Event. More than 15,000 attended the Oct. 14-16 event and more than 600,000 followers caught the live stream on Youtube. Although hundreds of iconic race cars were showcased, the 1996 McLaren F1 GT12R grabbed much of the attention. Care for a Thrilling Ride on the Race Track? Six rally vehicles from Seattle’s DirtFish Rally School were also in attendance. They ranged from the Group B Lancia Rally 037 and MG Metro 6R4 to some of Subaru’s best Imprezas and the Peugeot 206 WRC that dominated the World Rally Championship in the early 2000s. Attendees Experienced the Power of Sportscars at Their Fingertips. Alister McRae and his son Max McRae drove and drifted those cars. “Velocity Invitational was introduced with a vision of revitalizing the motorsports experience for all generations of enthusiasts and their families to enjoy,” said event founder Jeff O’Neill. At other times during the weekend cars from Hennessey, Czinger, Mclaren, and Zenvo were seen both on track and on display in the paddock alongside hundreds of race cars from as early as 1920. The event’s “Sip & Savor” Pavilion also provided a hub for local vendors to offer gourmet food and wine tastings from brands like Robert Hall, Rombauer Vineyards, Langtry Farms, and Ryder Estate. This year’s event included a successful charity auction offering a chance to bid on two tickets to the highly anticipated event and an exclusive ride-along experience in the McLaren Artura supercar, accompanied by Mika Hakkinen or Pato O’ Ward.  The final bid in the auction - put together by McLaren and Bring a Trailer - finished at $3,200, which will go to Inspire Motorsport’s The Path to the Pits efforts to diversify the racing world and welcome new fans. It's official, the Rimac Nevera production starts for U.S. cars after receiving all required certifications. The Rimac Nevera production starts after the Croatian luxury carmaker acquired all certifications from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board ( CARB). Rimac CEO Mate Rimac recently shared the news on his Facebook page, adding that production of the Nevera electric supercar has begun at its Croatia-based factory. The automaker showed off what it terms the first production Nevera— aka the "000"— at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer. It's Official! The Rimac Nevera Production Starts for The US. That car will remain as a demonstration and marketing vehicle for Rimac as the company proceeds with building cars for its eager customers. The company has not yet announced a delivery date for its cars and says it will let the customers themselves take the lead in sharing that news. Each Rimac Nevera will be hand-built from start to finish. About 50 cars per year will be produced, the company founder said. That means it will take about three years to finish building the initial production run of about 150 units. The first year of production is already sold out with pricing starting at $2.4 million. Expect Quality Engineering, Performance, and Design as the Rimac Nevera Production Starts for The US. All Rimac Neveras will be built at the company’s new assembly facility that was unveiled by Rimac in 2021. According to the company, each of the 150 cars will take about five weeks to make, with some of the components manufactured months in advance at other Rimac facilities. The Nevera is the production version of the Rimac C_Two that first made waves when it was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It’s also a successor to the Rimac Concept_One.
