Telling the story of McLaren’s legendary founder, Bruce McLaren, is the forthcoming motion picture McLaren film. The movie, which uses a potent mix of interviews with Bruce’s colleagues, family, friends, and rivals painstakingly sourced archive footage and live-action reconstruction, promises to be both thrilling and moving.   “I think there are comparisons to be drawn between Bruce and stars like James Dean and Buddy Holly – incredibly talented young people who never lived to realize their true potential. Bruce was only 32 when he died, yet in that short period of time he achieved an enormous amount and built an incredible reputation for himself and the company. I think his life had everything that you look for in a great story and Bruce’s legacy will live on through this film,” says director Roger Donaldson.   The McLaren film will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms on May 29th. Emotional and powerful, the Audi e-tron Sportback represents an important milepost for the brand. The formal idiom combines classic Audi elements with an array of trendsetting details: an electrifying architecture, tailored consistently to the technology and the package of the electric drive.   “Our Audi e-tron will be starting out in 2018 as the first electric car in its competitive field that is fit for everyday use. With a range of over 310 miles and the special electric driving experience, we will make this sporty SUV the must-have product of the next decade. Following close on its heels, in 2019, comes the production version of the Audi e-tron Sportback, an emotional coupe version that is thrillingly identifiable as an electric car at the very first glance” explained, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG.   For its drive, the e-tron Sportback uses a configuration that will also be adopted in future production. Audi models with all-electric drive will hold one electric motor on the front axle and two on the rear power all four wheels, transforming the high-performance coupé into a quattro in typical Audi style. The Audi designers also adopt a new tack for the air flow through the front lid. Above its front section, which dips deeply at the front, a bridge running parallel with the nose connects the two wheel arches and also doubles up as an air deflector. This gives the front end a much more dynamic character than the hefty forward structure of a car with a combustion engine installed at the front. More techs and specs are to come along with the production of the e-tron concept. Thanks to the impressive work performed by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) students, for the first time ever, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars customers will be able to immerse themselves in a Virtual Reality (VR) experience for their Bespoke program.   Nine groups of students from NYP’s School of Interactive & Digital Media were invited to create a simulated world that offers potential customers a glimpse of Rolls-Royce’s signature Bespoke service through immersive 360-degree motion graphics videos. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars supported the project by offsetting software and licensing costs. Winning team members also each received an Apple iPad. The winning VR videos introduce the endless possibilities for Rolls-Royce customers to create personal touches on their cars.   Student Izz Irfan Sahlan, who worked on one of the selected VR videos, said, “Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is renowned for bespoke luxury design and craftsmanship, and it is a privilege to have this pinnacle company implementing our output.” We are thrilled for virtual reality to enhance the Rolls-Royce customer experience!   Interested in purchasing your very own Rolls-Royce? Aston Martin is redeveloping the former military site in St. Athan, South Wales into a new manufacturing facility, and just recently the brand celebrated their heritage and the groundbreaking of the renovations. The Aston Martin Vulcan took the spotlight among 28 exquisite and rare models. The vast, empty hangars of the former military base offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase Aston Martin’s 104-year history. Once again, a new and special edition Ghibli model has been added to the Maserati collection; The Nerissimo. The Nerissimo Edition has a restricted limit of 450 models to be produced in the United States and Canada, making this a rare and beautiful opportunity to have a limited-edition Maserati.   The name Nerissimo is based on the Italian expression for “extremely black.” The Nerissimo will be unveiled for the first time at the Javits Center during the auto show. It will be available as Ghibli, Ghibli S and Ghibli S Q4. Once again, the unthinkable has been accomplished by Porsche. The Cayenne, driven by Porsche GB technician Richard Payne, towed the aircraft over a distance of 42-metres at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, to set a new Guinness World Records title for ‘Heaviest Aircraft Pull by a Production Car,’ by a margin of 115-tonnes.   Richard Payne, a technician at Porsche GB said, “It did it – I’m so relieved! We don’t usually go this far to test the limits of our cars but I think today we got pretty close. I could tell that it was working hard but the Cayenne didn’t complain and just got on with it. My mirrors were quite full of Airbus, which was interesting. Our cars can go a bit beyond what our customers might expect they’re designed to be tough. But even so, what the Cayenne did today was remarkable we drove the car here from London and I plan to drive it home again, having towed an A380 in between. Credit should go to the team in Stuttgart who developed the car they did a thorough job. I’m also very grateful to Air France and its engineers for their generosity in allowing me to tow their beautiful aircraft.”   The 60,000-square-meter hangar was designed specifically to house the Air France Airbus A380 and is usually home to all the engineering and maintenance activity for the Air France fleet. The contrast between the two machines was striking. The Porsche Cayenne was connected to the most sophisticated and largest passenger aircraft in the world, the Airbus A380 via a special towing attachment that sat on the Cayenne’s standard tow bar. BMW has recently announced that four of its models qualify for California’s High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane use. Also known as the carpool lane, the HOV lane is normally restricted to vehicles carrying more than one person. However, several hybrid and electric vehicles that qualify for a California Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decal are allowed to drive in this traffic-light lane because they are exempt from the occupancy restriction. The 2017 BMW i3 BEV electric car and the i3 REX plug-in hybrid are both eligible for a CAV decal. Additionally, the new 2018 BMW 530e and 530e xDrive models qualify for this same designation.
