McLaren had an impressive 2016, and the brand’s iconic 570 received five impressive accolades over the past year. The 570S Coupé has been named ‘Best Performance Car’ in the 2016 UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCotY). Training is the most important stage of a firefighter’s education and recruitment. Because of this, Porsche wanted to provide a real car for the trainees to use for practice, so they donated a Porsche Panamera to the emergency services of Nuremberg. The latest training session was focused on the technical procedure for rescuing people from new vehicles. This involves freeing people from an automobile wreckage using tools like large shears and spreaders. “This makes it easier for the rescue team to help people quickly and safely at the scene”, says Alexander Grenz, from the department and Technical Service of Nuremberg. The generous donation gives firefighters the knowledge of working with some of the world’s most advanced vehicles. Porsche has released the specs of their all-new Panamera Hybrid. Lamborghini enthusiasts now have even more to rave about when it comes to the performance of the luxury brand. The Huracan Performante has surpassed the Porsche 918 Spyder by setting a new lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The Huracan Performante's new lap record is six minutes and 52 seconds. The vehicle, set to debut at the Geneva Auto Show, has received nothing but accolades from automotive experts. The team at MotorTrend writes, "The part of the Performante that’s going to excite you supercar lovers the most is ALA. That’s short for Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva, and the folks from Sant’Agata have just patented it because ALA is an entirely new way to do active aerodynamics.That isn’t all that’s improved, though. Power is up! And that’s always a good thing. Especially when your garden variety Huracán is capable of producing “only” 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque from its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10. For Performante duty, the engine gets new intake and exhaust camshafts, an air intake borrowed from the gentlemen racer Super Trofeo Huracáns, and a new exhaust system that relieves backpressure. The result is 25 to 40 more horsepower and an additional 30 lb-ft of torque. Assume that final numbers will be between 625 and 640 hp and 453 lb-ft of torque. They’re still working out the details. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been re-optimized for crisper, smarter shifts. The last time we tested a Huracán, it hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Expect the Performante to be quicker." Speaking of the car's various modes and stability control settings, Lorenzo Rinaldi, Automobili Lamborghini’s Head of Vehicle Dynamics, said in a recent interview, "Sport is dedicated to make the car feel a little loose and tail-happy. For the fastest lap times, however, you’re better off in Corsa. It is more focused and sharper overall. Alternatively, you can of course switch off stability control altogether." McLaren Automotive is creating a new Composites Technology Center, which will house the research, development and manufacturing of the Monocell and Monocage. The Carbon fiber chassis is now being called the “ future of McLaren cars.” Using advanced automated manufacturing techniques, the next generation Monocell will be developed in conjunction with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.   At the launch event at the AMRC in Sheffield, Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Automotive commented: “In 1981, McLaren was the first company to recognize the exceptional properties of carbon fiber, and we have designed the highly-technical material it to be at the heart of every McLaren road and racing car ever since. The now-iconic McLaren F1 was the world’s first road car to be built with a carbon fiber chassis and every car built more recently by McLaren Automotive has the same. Creating a facility where we can manufacture our own carbon fiber chassis structures is therefore a logical next step.”   The partnership between McLaren Automotive and the University of Sheffield’s AMRC creates the opportunity to expand and to provide more than 200 jobs through a combined investment.
