Maserati Ghibli: Then & Now

One of the most successful of Maserati’s classic cars, the 1967 Ghibli came onto the market at a time when the world’s fascination with fast, beautiful cars was growing rapidly. The original Ghibli’s 8-cylinder front engine carried 330hp and powered the muscular car with ease. It featured a tubular chassis, independent front suspension, and a beam axle with leaf springs to the rear. Maserati produced only 1,280 of these two-door roadsters. Today, the Ghibli has evolved. The four-door model is sporty and blends the excitement of a sports car with the convenience of a sedan. It touts a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine that moves the Maserati from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds. Today’s Ghibli exudes luxury, comfort, and beauty. Rolls-Royce Reveals the Future of Luxury Automotive Design in VISION NEXT 100

On June 16, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presented their VISION NEXT 100, a prototype of future luxury transportation. After months of research, the experts at Rolls-Royce developed a vehicle intended to meet the needs of the future consumer. The design answers three questions: How can Rolls-Royce recast luxury for the next 100 years? What will a Rolls-Royce owner expect of his or her vehicle in the coming decades? How does Rolls-Royce meet those expectations? The car brings with it several particular features that Rolls-Royce believes to be important to future drivers. It boasts advanced materials crafted into a modern coach powered by an engine that produces zero emissions. Each car will be custom crafted so that no two are exactly alike. Lamborghini Opens Carbon Fiber Research Facility in Seattle

Lamborghini’s Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory Opens in Seattle

In its 30th year of using carbon-fiber reinforced polymer in its vehicles, Lamborghini has opened a research center dedicated to the study of this important material. The Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory (ACSL) celebrated a grand opening last Tuesday at the new facility in Seattle, Washington. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini explained, “Carbon fiber is a material that Lamborghini has a long history with. Starting with the Countach Quattrovalvole and continuing today, it is one of the most important keys to the success of our cars in the past, present, and future.” The research in Seattle will focus on perfecting Forged Composites and minimizing the production time of carbon-fiber materials. Lamborghini chose Seattle specifically for the company’s connection to Boeing, as the car manufacturer intends to collaborate with the airline producer, making carbon-fiber technological advances together. Happy to welcome the new laboratory to Seattle, Washington’s governor Jay Inslee described, “Seattle is a nexus for innovation, and Lamborghini’s choice to base its carbon-fiber research center here reflects that. Lamborghini’s Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory, their continued success in developing breakthrough technology, and their collaboration with Boeing is a benefit and a point of pride for the city and the state of Washington.” We’re eager to see what new discoveries Lamborghini makes in the future to make their cars safer, faster, and more reliable. 2017 Audi A4 Earns A 2016 Top Safety Pick+ Rating From IIHS

The all-new 2017 Audi A4 has been named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2016 Top Safety Pick+, earning “good” ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and a “superior” rating for front crash prevention. Top Safety Pick+ is the highest 2016 rating available from IIHS. "We are very proud to have the IIHS recognize the A4 with this prestigious rating," said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America. "More and more customers are seeking driver assistance systems when making their vehicle purchase decision, and the A4 demonstrates some of the best technologies available today. Having both the Q7 and now the A4 be awarded Top Safety Pick+ ratings further demonstrates our commitment to the highest levels of safety and technology in our vehicles.” The standard Audi pre sense city with automatic emergency braking earned the 2017 A4 a “superior” rating for front crash prevention. The system helps detect moving and stationary vehicles as well as pedestrians, at speeds of up to 52 mph and can initiate braking when a potential collision is detected. The Audi brand’s focus on elevating standards for automotive engineering addresses evolving criteria for consumer crash tests as designated by the IIHS. As the bestselling model in Audi history, the 2017 A4 sets a new benchmark for the luxury sedan segment. With class-leading horsepower, the 2017 A4 features a 2.0-liter TFSI® engine that generates 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain and chassis have been completely redeveloped, allowing for a sportier driving experience and more comfortable ride, and the new front five-link suspension allows for greater steering precision and handling. Equipped with a new portfolio of available driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go and traffic jam assist, the A4 can help drivers navigate the road and traffic while making their driving experience more enjoyable. The A4 also features a suite of advanced infotainment functions including the available Audi virtual cockpit and for the first time, a full-color head-up display. Both bring relevant driving information directly front and center for the driver. IIHS Top Safety Pick Ratings IIHS tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness, how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, and crash avoidance and mitigation, technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity. To determine crashworthiness, IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor, based on performance in five tests: moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. In the area of crash avoidance and mitigation, IIHS assigns vehicles with available front crash prevention systems ratings of basic, advanced or superior, based on the type of system and performance in track tests. On This Day In History: The First Porsche Was Completed

On June 8, 1948, the very first Porsche was legally registered. Engineered by Ferdinand Porsche, the 356 went into production during the winter of 1947-48, and the aluminum prototype that was entirely hand-built was finished on June 8, 1948, exactly 68 years ago from today. The completely hand-built aluminum prototype labeled “No. 1″ became the first vehicle to bear the name of Porsche. It was built using modified Volkswagen components and featured a lightweight, hand-beaten aluminum body over a tubular steel chassis. Its initial design was seen as unfit for series production, meriting a more robust yet complex unibody redesign undertaken in 1948. Against all odds, however, the  automaker crafted 52 of these rarified sports cars over the course of a year in a small garage in Gmund, Austria, before relocating to Stuttgart, Germany. By 1958, Porsche had built 10,000 of them. With a weight of just 1,290 pounds, contemporary accounts suggest the prototype’s top speed lay somewhere between 84 and 87 mph. Porsche went on to build 77,000 356 cars before transitioning to the iconic 911 sports car in 1964. Today, Porsche is one of the most prestigious car brands in the world and it all started with this car. Here at indiGO Auto Group we are proud to continually honor the heritage of Porsche.
